Terms of Service
Version 2026-11-11 · Effective November 11, 2026
PLEASE READ THESE TERMS CAREFULLY. THEY INCLUDE AN AGREEMENT TO RESOLVE DISPUTES BY BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION AND A WAIVER OF CLASS ACTIONS (SEE SECTION 15), WHICH AFFECT YOUR RIGHTS IF YOU LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES. YOU MAY OPT OUT OF ARBITRATION AS DESCRIBED IN SECTION 15.9. THEY ALSO LIMIT OUR LIABILITY TO YOU (SEE SECTION 12).
1. ACCEPTANCE AND ELIGIBILITY.
1.1. Agreement. These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and HEADING Global Intelligence LLC, a California limited liability company (“HEADING,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern your access to and use of the websites, applications, and related products and services we provide that link to these Terms, including the products described in the Product Terms (together, the “Service”).
1.2. How You Accept These Terms. You accept these Terms when you check the box or click the button that says you agree to them when you create an account or make a purchase, and when you accept an updated version under Section 16. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
1.3. Eligibility. You must be at least eighteen (18) years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. Paid features are available only to residents of the countries stated in the applicable Product Terms. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least eighteen (18) years old and able to form a binding contract, and that the residence information you give us is accurate. The Service is not directed at anyone under eighteen (18). If we learn that a user is under eighteen (18), we may close the account.
1.4. Privacy. Our Privacy Policy, available at https://tryheading.app/privacy, explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information. Please read it. The Privacy Policy is a notice of our practices and is not part of these Terms. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that the Service will be free of security breaches.
1.5. Additional Terms. Some features may be subject to additional terms that we present to you when you use them (for example, promotion rules). Those terms are part of these Terms for that feature. If you use the Service under a separate written agreement with us (for example, as a business customer), that agreement controls to the extent it conflicts with these Terms, including where it permits uses of Output (defined in Section 3.2) that these Terms restrict.
1.6. How These Terms Are Organized. These Terms consist of these general terms and the following modules, each of which forms part of these Terms: (i) the product terms for the product you use, which follow Section 19 (the “Product Terms”); and (ii) if you buy a subscription through the Service, the subscription terms that follow the Product Terms (the “Subscription Terms”). If a module conflicts with these general terms, these general terms control, unless the Product Terms or the Subscription Terms expressly state that a provision overrides a specified Section of these general terms, in which case that provision controls only for that product or subscription and only to the extent stated. No module limits Section 9.2. A provision of a module that adds to these general terms, for example by describing a product, restricting a use, or adding a disclaimer, does not conflict with them.
2. YOUR ACCOUNT.
2.1. Registration. You may need an account to use some features of the Service. You agree to provide accurate and complete information when you register and to keep it up to date.
2.2. Account Security. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity under your account. If you believe someone has accessed your account without permission, contact us promptly at [email protected].
2.3. Closing Your Account. You may close your account at any time in your account settings or by contacting us at [email protected]. Closing your account permanently deletes your account, Your Inputs, and your Output (subject to Section 5.2), which cannot then be recovered, so please download any Output you want to keep before you close it. Closing your account does not entitle you to a refund except as stated in these Terms or where the law requires.
3. THE SERVICE.
3.1. Product Terms. Each product we offer, its features, and any terms that apply only to it are described in the Product Terms for that product.
3.2. License. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service, and to view, download (including through any export feature we provide), and print any reports, analyses, or other content the Service generates for you (“Output”), for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. That includes showing Output to people you choose, such as family members or your own advisers, including through any sharing feature we provide. You may not use the Service or any Output to develop a similar or competing product, and you must keep intact any copyright or other proprietary notice on any Output.
3.3. Changes to the Service. We may change, add, or remove features of the Service from time to time. If we discontinue a paid feature you have paid for in advance and do not replace it with a substantially similar feature, we will refund the unused portion of what you paid for it.
3.4. Third-Party Services. The Service may link to or integrate with websites, apps, or services that we do not operate (“Third-Party Services”). We provide those links for convenience only, and including them does not mean we endorse them. We are not responsible for Third-Party Services, and your use of them is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
4. ACCEPTABLE USE.
You agree not to, and not to help anyone else to:
(a) use the Service in violation of any law or anyone else’s rights;
(b) copy, sell, resell, rent, or commercially exploit the Service or any content in it, except as these Terms expressly allow;
(c) resell or redistribute Output as a data product, or present it as your own work product to others;
(d) scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access or extract data from the Service, except through any interface we provide for that purpose;
(e) reverse engineer, decompile, or try to obtain the source code of the Service, except to the extent the law allows despite this restriction;
(f) interfere with or disrupt the Service, including by overloading it or introducing malware;
(g) get around any security, access control, usage limit, or payment feature of the Service;
(h) access the Service to build a competing product or service;
(i) frame or mirror any part of the Service, or display it within another website or app, without our written permission;
(j) impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone; or
(k) use the Service in any way that could harm us, our users, or the public.
5. YOUR INPUTS.
5.1. Your Inputs. You keep ownership of the information you enter into the Service (“Your Inputs”). You are responsible for Your Inputs and confirm that they are accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have the right to provide them.
5.2. License to Us. You grant us, and our service providers acting on our behalf, a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, and adapt Your Inputs only as needed to operate, provide, and improve the Service for you, including to generate your Output and to make it available to the people you share it with. We do not use Your Inputs to train or fine-tune artificial-intelligence models, and we do not allow our AI service providers to do so, unless you expressly opt in. This license ends when you delete Your Inputs or your account, except for copies that remain in backups or with our service providers for up to thirty (30) days after deletion, records of your purchases, refunds, support requests, and consents that we keep as described in the Privacy Policy to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, or show that you gave consent, and Output you have shared with others, until that Output is deleted. The Privacy Policy describes how we store and delete Your Inputs.
6. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.
6.1. Our Rights. The Service, including its software, code, methods, models, design, text, graphics, data compilations, and Output, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership rights to you or grant any license by implication or otherwise, except the limited license in Section 3.2. Our names, logos, and other marks are our trademarks, and you may not use them without our written permission. Any third-party software provided with the Service is governed by its own license. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
6.2. Feedback. If you send us ideas, suggestions, or other feedback about the Service (“Feedback”), you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, modify, and otherwise exploit that Feedback for any purpose, without obligation or compensation to you. Please do not send Feedback that you consider confidential.
7. PURCHASES AND PAYMENT.
7.1. Plans and Features. The plans available for each product, their features, and any usage limits are described in the applicable Product Terms and in the Service. Prices are shown at the point of purchase. We may change plan features as described in Section 3.3.
7.2. Prices. Prices are shown in U.S. dollars at the point of purchase and include all mandatory fees we charge. Prices do not include sales, use, or similar taxes. Where tax applies, it is calculated from your address by our payment processor and shown as a separate line on the checkout page before you pay.
7.3. Payment. By making a purchase, you authorize us and our payment processor, Stripe, to charge your selected payment method for the amount shown at checkout. Purchases are completed on a checkout page hosted by Stripe. We do not store your card details. Stripe processes your payment, and Stripe’s terms and policies also apply to it. You confirm that you are authorized to use the payment method you provide. We do not charge a payment method you have saved except for a purchase you make or a subscription you hold.
7.4. Introductory Prices. We may offer an introductory price for a stated period. When we do, we show the date the introductory price ends and the price that will apply after that date. A purchase made at an introductory price is not repriced.
7.5. Promotion Codes. We may issue promotion codes, including codes shared by creators or partners we work with. Codes are entered on the checkout page. A code applies only as stated when issued (including any expiry date), to one purchase per account unless we say otherwise, and cannot be combined with another code. Codes have no cash value and may not be sold or transferred. We may pay a creator or partner a fee when you use their code; this does not change the price you pay, which is the price shown at checkout less the discount shown there. If a purchase made with a code is refunded, the refund is the amount you actually paid.
7.6. Price Changes. We may change our prices. A price change applies to purchases made after we publish it. For subscriptions, price changes are handled as described in Section S.4.
7.7. Pricing Errors. If we discover an error in the price of something you ordered, we will tell you and give you the choice of continuing at the correct price or canceling for a full refund.
8. SUBSCRIPTIONS.
If you buy a subscription through the Service, the Subscription Terms apply to it. A subscription we provide under a separate written agreement is governed by that agreement.
9. REFUNDS.
9.1. Refund Policy. Except as stated in these Terms or where required by law, purchases are non-refundable.
9.2. Rights You Cannot Waive. Nothing in these Terms limits any refund, cancellation, or withdrawal right that the law gives you and that cannot be waived by contract.
10. SUSPENSION AND TERMINATION.
10.1. By You. You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time, as described in Section 2.3.
10.2. By Us. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you materially breach these Terms, if we reasonably believe your use creates legal risk or harm to others, or if the law requires us to. Where practical, we will tell you why and give you a chance to fix the problem first. We may also stop providing the Service to you for any other reason on at least thirty (30) days’ notice; if we do, we will refund any amounts you have prepaid for periods or items you have not received.
10.3. Effect of Termination. When your access ends, your license to use the Service ends. Where practical, we will give you a reasonable opportunity to download any Output available for download first. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including Section 6, Section 11, Section 12, Section 13, Section 14, Section 15, Section 17, Section P.11, and Section P.12.
11. DISCLAIMERS.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND, EXCEPT FOR ANY REFUND EXPRESSLY PROVIDED IN THE PRODUCT TERMS, THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT AND OUTPUT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY OF DATA. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, THAT ANY CONTENT OR OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR CURRENT, OR THAT ANY ESTIMATE OR PROJECTION WILL MATCH ACTUAL RESULTS. NO INFORMATION YOU OBTAIN FROM US OR THROUGH THE SERVICE CREATES ANY WARRANTY NOT EXPRESSLY STATED IN THESE TERMS. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THESE EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
12. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW: (i) WE AND OUR AFFILIATES, OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR ANTICIPATED SAVINGS, OR ANY LOSS ARISING FROM A DECISION YOU MAKE BASED ON THE SERVICE OR ANY OUTPUT, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), WARRANTY, STATUTE, OR ANY OTHER THEORY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THEIR POSSIBILITY AND EVEN IF A LIMITED REMEDY FAILS OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE; AND (ii) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM AND (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (U.S. $100).
You acknowledge that these limitations are an essential part of the basis of the bargain between you and us, and that we would not provide the Service without them.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (including, for California users, California Civil Code § 1668), and nothing in these Terms waives any right you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived (including the California Consumers Legal Remedies Act). If any part of this Section 12 is held unenforceable, it applies to the maximum extent permitted.
13. INDEMNIFICATION.
To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify and hold harmless HEADING and its owners, officers, employees, and agents from third-party claims, and related losses and reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising from (i) your breach of these Terms, (ii) your use or disclosure of Output in breach of these Terms, or (iii) your violation of law or of anyone else’s rights, except to the extent the claim arises from our own breach, negligence, or misconduct. We will notify you promptly of any such claim, and we may control its defense, in which case you will reasonably cooperate. You may not settle a claim that affects our rights without our consent.
14. GOVERNING LAW AND COURTS.
14.1. Governing Law. These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or the Service, are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and Section 15 is also governed by the Federal Arbitration Act. Nothing in these Terms takes away a protection, or a right to bring proceedings in your home courts, that the law of the country where you live gives you and that cannot be waived by contract.
14.2. Courts. Subject to Section 15, the state and federal courts located in Sacramento County, California have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. This does not limit any right a consumer has under applicable law to bring proceedings in their home courts.
15. DISPUTE RESOLUTION; ARBITRATION AGREEMENT.
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. IF YOU LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES, IT REQUIRES YOU AND US TO RESOLVE MOST DISPUTES BY BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION, NOT IN COURT, AND IT WAIVES CLASS ACTIONS. YOU MAY OPT OUT AS DESCRIBED IN SECTION 15.9.
15.1. Informal Resolution First. Before starting an arbitration or small-claims action, you and we agree to try to resolve any dispute informally. The party raising the dispute must send the other a written notice describing it and the relief sought and identifying the user by name and by the email address on the user’s account (to us by email at [email protected] or by mail to HEADING Global Intelligence LLC, 2108 N Street #11218, Sacramento, CA 95816; to you at the email address on your account). If the dispute is not resolved within sixty (60) days after the notice is received, either party may start a proceeding. Any limitation period is paused during those sixty (60) days.
15.2. Agreement to Arbitrate. Except as set out in Section 15.6, any dispute between you and us arising out of or relating to these Terms, the Service, or any email or other communication we send you will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules and Procedures or its Comprehensive Arbitration Rules and Procedures, whichever applies to the claim, and the JAMS Policy on Consumer Arbitrations Pursuant to Pre-Dispute Clauses Minimum Standards of Procedural Fairness, each in effect when the arbitration starts. The arbitration will take place by video or in the county where you live, unless we both agree otherwise. The arbitrator will apply the same law, including statutes of limitations, that a court would apply, may allow discovery appropriate to the claim, and will issue a written decision stating the essential findings and conclusions on which the award is based. The arbitrator may award any individual relief a court could award, and judgment on the award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.
15.3. Fees. We will pay all filing, administrative, and arbitrator fees above the amount you would pay to file the claim in court, and any other fees the arbitration provider’s consumer rules require us to pay. Each party bears its own attorneys’ fees unless the arbitrator awards them under applicable law or finds that a claim was frivolous or brought for an improper purpose.
15.4. Who Decides. The arbitrator decides all disputes about the scope and enforceability of this arbitration agreement, except that a court decides (i) whether Section 15.5 is enforceable, (ii) whether a party has failed to pay arbitration fees when due, (iii) whether the informal-resolution requirement in Section 15.1 has been met, (iv) whether a request for relief seeks public injunctive relief, and (v) which version of this Section 15 applies. A court decides these questions even if the arbitration provider’s rules provide otherwise.
15.5. Individual Claims Only. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOU AND WE MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST EACH OTHER ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY CLASS, COLLECTIVE, OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person’s claims (except for batching or other grouping under Section 15.7) or preside over any class or representative proceeding. If this Section 15.5 is found unenforceable as to a particular claim or request for relief, that claim or request (and only that one) will be decided by a court under Section 14.2 after all other claims have been arbitrated. This Section 15.5 does not prevent either party from seeking public injunctive relief from a court under Section 15.6.
15.6. Exceptions. Either party may (i) bring an individual action in small-claims court for a dispute within its jurisdiction, (ii) ask a court for injunctive or other equitable relief to stop infringement or misuse of its intellectual property, (iii) ask a court for temporary relief to preserve the status quo while an arbitration is pending, and (iv) bring in court any claim that applicable law does not permit to be arbitrated. A request for public injunctive relief will be decided by a court under Section 14.2 after all individual claims have been arbitrated, and the court proceeding will be paused until then. The arbitrator may award injunctive relief to the individual claimant but will not decide a request for public injunctive relief. Asking a court for relief under this Section does not waive the right to arbitrate.
15.7. Mass Filings. If twenty-five (25) or more similar arbitration demands are filed against the same party or related parties by individual claimants represented by the same law firm or by law firms acting in coordination (a “Mass Arbitration”), those demands will be administered under the JAMS Mass Arbitration Procedures and Guidelines, which you and we expressly adopt for that purpose, and both sides will cooperate in good faith to administer them efficiently. In a Mass Arbitration, the demands will be grouped into batches of up to one hundred (100) demands each, and one arbitrator will be appointed for each batch. All batches will proceed at the same time, and no batch will wait for another batch to be decided. Within a batch, the arbitrator may set a common schedule and decide common procedural questions together, but will decide each claimant’s claim on its own facts and issue a separate award for each claimant. The JAMS Process Administrator will decide any dispute about how demands are batched. Each claimant keeps the right to an individual decision on their own claim, and no claimant is bound by the decision on the merits of another claimant’s claim. Batching or other grouping of demands under this Section is not a class, collective, or representative proceeding. In a Mass Arbitration, fees are allocated under the JAMS mass-arbitration fee schedule, but no claimant will pay more than the claimant would have paid to file the claim in court. Any limitation period for a claim that becomes part of a Mass Arbitration is paused from the date its notice under Section 15.1 is sent until a demand for that claim is filed with JAMS.
15.8. Jury Waiver. BY AGREEING TO ARBITRATION, YOU AND WE GIVE UP THE RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JUDGE OR JURY FOR CLAIMS THAT ARE ARBITRATED.
15.9. Opting Out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement, including Section 15.5, within thirty (30) days after you first accept these Terms by emailing [email protected] from the email address on your account, or writing to HEADING Global Intelligence LLC, 2108 N Street #11218, Sacramento, CA 95816, with your name and a clear statement that you opt out of arbitration. Opting out does not affect any other part of these Terms or any other arbitration agreement between you and us.
15.10. Changes to This Section. A change to this Section 15 does not apply to any dispute that either party gave notice of before the change took effect. If we make a material change to this Section 15, you may reject it by notice under Section 15.9 within thirty (30) days after it takes effect, in which case the version of this Section 15 you last accepted continues to apply to you, and the rest of the updated Terms applies to you.
15.11. Who This Section Applies To. This Section 15 applies to users who live in the United States.
16. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS.
Each version of these Terms is identified by its effective date, and earlier versions are archived and linked from the page where these Terms are published. If we make a material change, we will notify you at least fourteen (14) days before it takes effect, by a notice in the Service (we may also notify you by email), and we will ask you to accept the new version before you continue to use your account after that date. If you do not accept it, the version you last accepted continues to govern your earlier purchases, and you may close your account; if you ask before you close it, we will send you copies of your purchased Output and refund any unused credits and any prepaid amounts for periods you have not received. Other changes (for example, clarifications or changes required by law) will be shown in a notice in the Service and apply from the effective date stated in it. We keep a record of each acceptance, showing the document, its version, and when and how you accepted it.
17. GENERAL.
17.1. Entire Agreement. Subject to any separate written agreement under Section 1.5, these Terms, together with any additional terms under that Section, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service and replace any earlier understandings.
17.2. Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, it applies to the maximum extent permitted and the rest of these Terms remains in effect, subject to Section 15.5.
17.3. No Waiver. Our failure or delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later. A waiver is effective only if we give it in writing.
17.4. Assignment. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent. We may transfer them to an affiliate or to a successor to our business, and we will tell you if we do.
17.5. No Third-Party Beneficiaries. Except for the persons protected by Section 12 and Section 13, these Terms are for the benefit of you and us only, and no one else has any right to enforce them.
17.6. Electronic Communications. By accepting these Terms, you consent to receive agreements, notices, disclosures, receipts, and other communications from us electronically, by email or through the Service, and agree that electronic communications satisfy any requirement that a communication be in writing. To receive and keep them, you need a device with internet access, a current web browser, software that can open PDF files, an active email address, and enough storage space or a printer. You may ask for a paper copy of any communication free of charge by writing to us at the address in Section 19. You may withdraw this consent by contacting us, but because we provide the Service electronically, you will then need to close your account. Please keep your email address up to date.
17.7. Notices. We may give you notice by email to the address on your account or by a notice in the Service. You may give us notice by email to [email protected] or by mail to the address in Section 19, unless these Terms specify another method.
17.8. Compliance with Laws. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to your use of the Service.
17.9. Events Beyond Our Control. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
17.10. Export. You may not use or export the Service in violation of U.S. export-control or sanctions laws.
17.11. Accessibility. We aim to make the Service accessible to everyone. If you have difficulty using any part of it, contact us at [email protected].
17.12. Interpretation. Headings are for convenience only. “Including” means “including without limitation.”
18. STATE-SPECIFIC NOTICES.
18.1. California. Under California Civil Code § 1789.3, California users are entitled to the following notice: the provider of the Service is HEADING Global Intelligence LLC, whose address and telephone number are in Section 19; charges for the Service are shown at the point of purchase (see Section 7); to resolve a complaint or get more information about the Service, contact us as described in Section 19; and the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs may be contacted in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by telephone at (800) 952-5210.

PRODUCT TERMS: HEADING
These Product Terms apply to the HEADING web application and website at tryheading.app (the “HEADING app”) and form part of these Terms. They contain the provisions that are specific to the HEADING app. The general terms above also apply to it.
P.1. What the HEADING App Does. The HEADING app is an informational and educational estimation tool. From your answers to a questionnaire, city cost data, and modeled income-tax schedules, it estimates and compares the household-level financial effect of living in different cities, and produces reports of those estimates (each a “Report”). Reports are Output under these Terms, and your answers to our questionnaire are Your Inputs. Depending on your plan, a Report compares the cities you select side by side and estimates, for each, after-tax income, monthly living costs, disposable income, and projected savings, together with a financial-freedom score and a livability score. Where a figure is taken from or checked against a named statistical source, the Report’s Sources section identifies that source. Before each analysis starts, you confirm each place to be analyzed by its full name, region, and country, and we keep a record of that confirmation.
P.2. Availability. Paid features of the HEADING app are currently available only to residents of the United States. If you are not a resident of the United States, your account may be placed on a waitlist and cannot be used to make purchases until we offer paid features where you live. Joining our public waitlist does not create an account or a purchase.
P.3. Plans. We currently offer the plans listed below. Prices are shown at the point of purchase. There is no free trial on any plan.
(a) SCOUT: free, with one analysis per month covering up to two cities, and a summary Report;
(b) BEARING: a paid analysis, charged once at checkout, covering up to three cities, with a full Report, PDF export, a read-only share link, a relocation checklist, and unlimited Report history; and
(c) TRUE: a monthly subscription, covering up to four cities, available only to business customers under a separate written agreement with us, which cannot be bought through the Service.
P.4. Free Features and Analysis Credits. We may offer some features free of charge, subject to the usage limits described in Section P.3 and shown in the Service. After your first purchase, your account moves to BEARING. It no longer includes the free monthly SCOUT analysis, and each further analysis is a paid purchase. Each paid analysis is a single purchase that buys one analysis credit, which is redeemed when you start (or re-run) an analysis. Credits do not expire. Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and are not refundable, except as stated in these Terms or where the law requires. A purchased Report stays in your account history while your account remains open, and you do not need to buy anything more to keep reading it.
P.5. TRUE Plan. Our TRUE plan is currently available only to business customers under a separate written agreement, and we do not currently offer subscriptions for self-service purchase. If you hold a TRUE subscription: it renews monthly; your plan includes a fair-use allowance of newly researched cities for each billing period, which we show before you subscribe and on your billing page; each analysis you start, including a re-run of a city we have already researched, counts as one quarter of a city against that allowance; further research beyond the allowance in a billing period requires one BEARING analysis credit, which you can buy at the then-current price; and when your subscription ends, your account returns to the free SCOUT plan.
P.6. Data Sources. Reports use data from public and third-party sources, and figures are current only as of the date of the Report. Costs, tax rules, and other information may change afterward without notice, and we have no obligation to update a Report after it is generated. We do not control third-party sources, and we are not responsible for errors that originate in them. This does not limit any refund available under Section P.10.
P.7. Not Professional Advice. The HEADING app provides general information only. It is not financial, investment, tax, legal, accounting, immigration, or relocation advice, and using it does not create an advisory, broker, fiduciary, or other professional relationship. HEADING does not act as your financial planner, investment adviser, broker, tax preparer, accountant, or lawyer. Reports are broad in scope, are estimates rather than guarantees or recommendations, and do not account for all of your personal, financial, or legal circumstances. Your situation is unique: before making a relocation, employment, housing, tax, or financial decision, consult a qualified professional who is fully aware of your circumstances. Where a Report uses the words “recommend” or “recommendation,” it describes the outcome of the comparison and is not advice.
P.8. Uses Reports Are Not Suited For. Reports must not be used as the basis for audited financial statements, regulatory or tax filings, visa or immigration applications, or mortgage or lending applications. The HEADING app is not intended to replace any other decision-making method or tool you use, and you may not use it or any Report to provide financial, advisory, or other services to others, such as clients or customers, except under a separate written agreement with us. You are solely responsible for the decisions you make.
P.9. AI-Generated Content. Reports are generated using artificial-intelligence systems, including large language models, that research, normalize, and summarize cost-of-living, tax, and financial-comparison data and write the narrative in each Report. Because these systems are probabilistic and evolving, Reports may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date, and may not suit your situation. You should review each Report and independently check any figure or statement you intend to rely on.
P.10. Accuracy Guarantee. If a paid Report contains (i) an arithmetic or data-processing error on our side, or (ii) a figure that the Report’s Sources section attributes to a named published data source and that differs from that source as published on the date of the Report, you may claim a refund of the fee you paid for that analysis. To claim, within thirty (30) days after the Report is completed, use the “Report an error” button on the Report, which opens the “Claim the accuracy refund” form, and identify the figure you believe is wrong and why. We review each claim against the data and inputs actually used and refund where we confirm a qualifying error. You may make one claim per analysis, and we will provide no more than two (2) refunds per customer in any rolling twelve (12)-month period. We will tell you the reason for any decision on a claim, and we may decline a claim that repeats a claim already decided for the same analysis or that is fraudulent or abusive. Subject to the last paragraph of Section 12, this refund is your sole and exclusive remedy for any error described in clause (i) or (ii) above, including an error for which no refund is available because of the time limit or the annual limit in this Section. The Accuracy Guarantee is a refund commitment only. It is not a warranty that any Report is accurate, complete, or current, and, except for that refund, Sections 11 and 12 apply in full to every Report. For Reports generated under a separate written agreement with us, any refund is as stated in that agreement. The Accuracy Guarantee does not apply to:
(a) errors caused by inaccurate, incomplete, or misclassified information you entered;
(b) differences between an estimate and your actual costs, taxes, or outcomes;
(c) changes in law, tax rules, prices, or exchange rates after the date of the Report;
(d) eligibility for any tax regime, benefit, or program, which depends on your personal facts and a professional’s confirmation;
(e) the inherent imprecision of modeled, approximate, or research figures (this does not exclude an error described in clause (i) or (ii) above in such a figure), or disagreement with a comparison, ranking, or recommendation;
(f) any decision, loss, or expense arising from your reliance on a Report; or
(g) a Report generated for a place other than the one you intended, where the Report is accurate for the place you confirmed under Section P.1.
P.11. Additional Disclaimers. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY REPORT WILL MATCH YOUR ACTUAL COSTS, TAXES, OR OUTCOMES. For purposes of Section 12, decisions you make based on the Service include relocation, employment, housing, tax, and financial decisions.
P.12. Research Data. Our rights under Section 6.1 include the aggregated city research data we use to produce Reports.
SUBSCRIPTION TERMS
These Subscription Terms apply only to subscriptions you buy through the Service and form part of these Terms. A subscription we provide under a separate written agreement is governed by that agreement. The applicable Product Terms state whether a product currently offers subscriptions, its billing period, and any plan-specific allowances.
S.1. Automatic Renewal. IF YOU BUY A SUBSCRIPTION, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY RENEW AT THE END OF EACH BILLING PERIOD, AND WE WILL CHARGE YOUR PAYMENT METHOD THE SUBSCRIPTION PRICE THEN IN EFFECT, UNTIL YOU CANCEL. Your billing period is shown before you subscribe and in the applicable Product Terms. There is no minimum term or minimum purchase. Your billing period begins on the date of your first charge. If your plan includes a usage allowance, we show it before you subscribe and on your billing page.
S.2. What We Show Before You Subscribe. Before you subscribe, we show you, next to the button you use to subscribe, the price and how often you will be charged, that the subscription renews automatically until you cancel, the date and amount of the first charge, and how to cancel, and we ask you to agree to those automatic-renewal terms separately. After you subscribe, we send you an acknowledgment that sets out these terms and how to cancel.
S.3. Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from your account’s billing page, which opens our payment processor’s customer portal. You do not need to call or email us, and canceling is as easy as subscribing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; you keep access until then and will not be charged again, and your account then returns to any free plan described in the applicable Product Terms. We do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods, except as stated in these Terms or where the law requires.
S.4. Subscription Price Changes. If we change the price of your subscription, we will notify you of the new price and how to cancel no less than seven (7) and no more than thirty (30) days before the new price takes effect. The new price applies from your first renewal on or after the date it takes effect. If you do not want to pay the new price, you may cancel before it takes effect.
S.5. Reminders. We will send you a reminder of your subscription terms, the amount and frequency of charges, and how to cancel at least once a year.
S.6. Failed Payments. If a payment fails, we may retry it and may suspend paid features until it succeeds. We will tell you if we do.
